Drinking Our Coffee

People often drink coffee for more than just the taste--they drink it for the caffeine. Many people know that caffeine is a drug that helps drinkers become more alert, so it is important to us that we have the right dosage in each drink.

We have found that the right dosage depends on the drinker's weight. For every ten pounds a drinker weighs, we recommend one ounce of coffee every four to six hours. Drinking the right amount is important--too much coffee causes discomfort, and too little coffee isn't enough to have any effect at all. However, results may vary from person to person.

Making a drink of simple coffee is very simple. For one serving of drink containing 8 fluid ounces of water, we use one serving of beans: about two teaspoons (about nine grams). For those who would like to have a stronger drink, we have a variety of alternatives to try.

Artistic Coffee is different from the varieties listed above because of one difference: these coffees have steamed milk. Coffee art is created by artistically combining steamed milk with coffee to produce a new drink. Cafe au lait, the simplest type, is a lighter coffee drink that is made by equal portions of coffee and steamed milk. The typical way to create the other drinks in this category with espresso as the coffee portion, but we prefer to use our Enhanced variety of coffee. This allows our Artistic Coffee to have a better flavor than usual coffee drinks with milk.

We have created the chart below to help coffee shop owners create Artistic Coffee for customers. An 8 fl oz drink uses one shot of Enhanced. A 12 fl oz drink uses two shots of Enhanced. A 16 fl oz drink uses three shots of Enhanced. A 20 fl oz drink uses four shots of Enhanced.
